Does anyone else find it really hard to throw away pretty scraps of paper? Or actually, just anything craft related? And it’s not just paper I’ve bought for crafting… I love to keep pretty cards and wrapping paper I’m gifted, because I’ll find a use for it right? Well, lately I haven’t been using it all that much, so I thought I would create some pages in my bullet journal to put some of these scraps to use. It made me realise how useful they are to make pretty quote pages. So, if you find yourself under a mountain of scrap paper, here’s one way to use some up!

Recommended Supplies:

• Journal – As always, it will be no surprise to you that my pick is the Archer and Olive Journal. The lovely and thick pages have no bleeding or ghosting, so you get a clean start for every project spread! Also, it means you can decorate the spread without worrying about it.
• Pencil – To carefully plan out your ideas so you can make sure your spread has everything you need.
• Brush Pen – For lettering your quote. I prefer brush pens with small nibs as they’re more precise!
• Scrap Paper – This can be any decorative/patterned paper you have laying around!

Picking Your Paper

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a LOT of scrap paper, so the first thing to do is pick 3/4 different styles that go well together. I especially like to use one patterned, and pick colours from that paper for the other ones. This way they all go together cohesively.

Settling on a Layout

Once I’ve picked my paper, the first thing to do is rip the pieces so that they fit the page. I like to have a mix of straight and ripped edges on each style of paper.

Once you have manageable pieces, you can start to shape the individual pieces to fit better. I usually do this as I move the papers around the journal to see what works the best. I personally prefer the papers to overlap, so next I will start to try different variations to see which I like most.

Adding a Quote

There are a few ways I like to add quotes, and it mostly depends on how big the quote is and which style you personally prefer.

One way is to rip small pieces of the same papers to write one to two words of the quote on each.

Another way is to rip a large piece of paper to overlay for the whole quote. I usually use white paper but you can use any colour that fits with the papers.

Once you do a few pieces, it gets easier to pick which shapes of the paper to use and how to place them.
