Events and News for Black History Month!

by Nicola Knobel 30 Jan 2022 1 comment

This month, February, is Black History Month. For our International customers (and also our USA based customers) Every February, people in the United States celebrate the achievements and history of African Americans as part of Black History Month.

As part of this, Archer and Olive has a series of special events to support and give our platform over to some incredible black artists that will be helping educate and create awareness around racism and safety within our communities.

Each week, there will be a host, who will support the engagement with a challenge, at the end of the week there will be a live Q&A/discussion around some really great topics. You are invited to listen, and there will be opportunities to ask questions and engage with the hosts, but we do ask that you use this time to learn (or unlearn) and be respectful of the topics presented.

During February we also have 2 incredible releases that we are so excited for! We have the amazing collaboration with Cookie Sticker Co, and Bee Harris (spoiler alert - those collabs are mind blowing!)

What is Black History Month

According to National Geographic

Every February, people in the United States celebrate the achievements and history of African Americans as part of Black History Month.

In 1915, in response to the lack of information on the accomplishments of Black people available to the public, historian Carter G. Woodson co-founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. In 1926, the group declared the second week of February as “Negro History Week” to recognize the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history. Few people studied Black history and it wasn't included in textbooks prior to the creation of Negro History Week.

Black History Month was formalised in 1976 when U.S. president Gerald Ford extended the recognition to “honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” Black History Month has been celebrated in the United States every February since
