How To Set Up A Memory Keeping Journal Spread
Hello Everyone! My name is Keisha from @k.moartsy.journals and for more art and journal inspiration you can find me on Instagram. Today we’re creating a memory journal in the Archer & Olive 8X8 sized journal. This journal will help you capture those special moments each month. I will be sharing three amazing ways to document your memorable moments with hand drawn art, words and photos.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 8x8 Archer & Olive notebook
- Medium of choice (watercolor, markers, colored pencil etc.)
- Ruler
- Pen
- Scissors
- Photos, stickers and/or memorabilia
- White cardstock
- Printer
- (*may also need a computer or device that stores photos)
What is a memory journal?
First, let’s start by defining what a memory journal is. A memory journal is a cross between a journal and a scrapbook. It can be used to record special events or everyday moments that are significant to you. If you enjoy capturing special moments through journaling or scrapbooking, memory journaling truly the best of both worlds. Now let’s get started!
Using art in your memory Journal
If you love to draw or doodle then using this method will be perfect for you. I’m an artist so drawing is always going to be my preferred method. Each box is 4 centimeters long and 4 cm wide so there isn’t a ton of space to work with however, when using your journal think of it as a snapshot of your experience. Choose your preferred medium of choice (ex: paint, markers, colored pencils etc.) and start doodling!
For example, if you took a hike that day, you could draw a hiking boot or if you finished a really great book, you could draw a book! (Note: If you’re not very confident with your art skills, you could also use stickers.)
Writing in your memory journal
If you’re more of a wordsmith, this next option is for you! I really love this option because sometimes you just need to write your feeling out. However, because there’s such limited space you may want to try using one word to describe your day or if you tend to write on the smaller side you can write a sentence.
Using photos in your memory journal
Lastly, we have photos! Yes, photos. This option is for the creator that has a little time on their hands because there will be a few extra steps needed when using this option. For instance, after choosing your photo of choice you will need to either:
*Adjust the photo’s size to 4x4cm (on your chosen device; computer, iPad etc.) and then print the photo
*or make a copy of the original photo (remember to adjust photo to the appropriate size.)
How to use your memory journal
Using a memory journal can be a fun way to record everything you’ve done each month however it can also be a bit overwhelming trying to fill up your month with things to do for the sake of memory journaling. Listed below are a few ideas to help you get started:
- *reading
- *finding a new hobby
- *baking
- *gardening
- *going out with friends
- *family time
- *drawing
- *hiking/walking
- *cooking
- *traveling
The topics are endless! Remember, you don’t have to have extravagant plans to use a memory journal, every moment that is important to you is worth highlighting. Also, don’t be afraid to add your own personal flair to your journal, make it your own. I like to add little doodles within my spread, little touches that are unique to me and my style.
