Bullet Journal Flower Theme + Cover Page

by Liz Gray 08 May 2020 0 Comments

Hi friends, it's Liz from @thegraytergood here with a neutral flower theme that's perfect for a low-key spring, which we are all having thanks to quarantine. And since we're all still stuck at home, for now, it's a great time to try something new, creative, or out of the box. Which, for this letterer, is definitely florals:)

To recreate this spread, you'll need:

  • Your Archer + Olive Dot Grid Notebook (I have the A5 size)
  • A black gel pen in 08 and white gel pens in sizes 05, 08, and 10
  • A Pigma Sakura Micron in varying sizes like 005, 01, 02, and 03
  • Crayola Super Tips (or almost any marker) in your preferred shade(s) of green
  • A pencil, eraser, and a ruler

Why so many pens and so many sizes? For florals, using varying line widths tends to add depth and realism. When sketching your central work, having a few bits of leaves or petals overlapping also adds depth but make sure that your word is still readable. I've been using Microns for my line art lately since it tends to dry quicker than a gel pen and I can erase my pencil lines sooner, and varying which flowers are black and white adds a lot of contrast which draws the eye around the page.

It's easy to carry this theme throughout your monthly pages by adding your chosen flowers, like pansies and dogwoods, to corners or by drawing a border along the edges. Something else I've added to my monthly pages is a line for each day, sort of an overview of important things that are going to happen or deadlines to look forward to.

The fun thing about this spread is that your color and flower options are almost endless! If you're feeling overwhelmed keep it to around 3 colors total, and don't be afraid to turn leaves pink and flowers blue if that's what you're feeling like.

I hope y'all enjoyed this spring theme, and don't forget to share your recreations or coloring pages with me on Instagram by tagging @thegraytergood!
