How To Draw A Turkey Tutorial - Step By Step For Beginners

by Ambassador Team 09 Jul 2023 0 Comments

Hello, Jane Maday here, from @janemaday with a blog of an easy step by step tutorial about drawing a turkey in your bullet journal. Your journal can be a great help to your mental health, and the act of drawing can be soothing and comforting. In this blog, I will show you how I draw a turkey for Thanksgiving pages in my B6 size bullet journal

Supplies that I used for this page are:

  • Archer and Olive B6 journal
  • Black waterproof fineliner pens
  • Pencil and eraser (a white plastic eraser works best)
  • If you want to add color, gather assorted watercolors or markers. Alcohol markers will bleed through the page, so water-based markers are a better choice.
  • For white highlights, use a white Acrylograph pen

Step One

Begin with a pencil, and draw a rounded, modified egg shape to represent the body of the turkey.

Step Two

Next, draw a fan shape at the back of the body. This will be the turkey’s wide tail.

Step Three

This step needs a little concentration. Draw the head and neck as shown. The neck goes down into the body shape. Don’t worry about the lines that show through; we will erase them later.

Step Four

Now it is time to start adding the details that turn the shapes into a recognizable turkey. Add the beak and top part of the legs. Divide the tail into feathers. Draw the wing, and make “scallops” at the bottom of the neck.

Step Five

We are almost finished! Draw the wattle hanging over the beak, and details on the wing and tail. The eye is just a dot. The most difficult bit is drawing the feet. Sketch them lightly in pencil so you can erase mistakes until you feel that they look good.

Step Six

At long last, it is time to go over your pencil lines with ink. Use a waterproof fineliner if you plan to add color. Go over all the lines and let them dry thoroughly before you erase the pencil lines underneath. If desired, color the turkey with markers or colored pencils.

This video shows how I sketch out my drawings in pencil, then go over it with ink.  You may find it helpful to watch this in conjunction with using the step by step instructions.
